A cooperation between the Ghent Group and the Bildungswerk Irsee
Forensic Psychiatry has been developed to vari-able extends in the different European countries. It is more depending on historical traditions and national and regional legal norms, structure and practice than other medical disciplines. Each of those variabilities in the different European coun-tries has its advantages and disadvantages, some of them can be recognized easily some are more hidden. It would be premature and maybe even disadvantageous to ignore the differences for the sake of a common European practice of Forensic Psychiatry. But there are also common grounds in practice, research, teaching and train-ing in forensic psychiatry.
The purpose of the seminar is to make young forensic psychiatrists of European countries aware of common aspects and differences in forensic psychiatry in the different countries and to learn from each other and from renowned trainers how to improve own skills and at the same time advance the services of forensic psychiatry in their own environment.
Participants are following the pathway of of-fenders through the system of different Euro-pean countries and thus learn about the princi-ples that govern the methods and the practice of their work and especially the treatment of mentally ill offenders at the interface of law and psychiatry in different parts of Europe.
They will in advance receive case vignettes by email and will be asked to study them before they come.
