Vacancy for PhD position at Department of Psychiatry and Medical Psychology of Ghent University
We are seeking a highly motivated PhD student for a project with a duration of 4 years on the integrative neuroscience of behavioral control in combination with imaging with neuromodulation applications. The project aims to further elucidate the underlying mechanisms of neuronal dysregulation in affective disorders and to provide new treatment modalities. The project is supervised by Baeken Chris in the Department of Psychiatry and Medical Psychology UGent.
The successful candidate is expected to have a Master's degree in medicine, psychology, (cognitive) neuroscience or related discipline. He or she will carry out behavioral and neuroimaging (fMRI) experiments combined with neuromodulation techniques, such as TMS and tDCS, and the candidate is thus expected to be highly interested in experimentation, treatment, programming, data analysis, and the functioning of the healthy as well as the emotionally affected human brain. Because this PhD will involve patient contacts the candidate’s language is preferably Dutch, or he/she is committed to learn the Dutch language.
The department of Department of Psychiatry and Medical Psychology is a key partner in the Multidisciplinary Research Partnership Neuroscience on the integrative neuroscience of behavioral control of Ghent University (http://www.ugent.be/neuroscience/en) and offers access to brain imaging facilities, including 3T fMRI, several high density scalp EEG systems, tDCS and TMS.
Starting date is flexible (but preferably February 2012), and will culminate after four years in a PhD thesis. Salary is according to standard Belgian regulations (scholarship: ± €22.000, net/year).
